DIY Tingly Lip Scrub

I am obsessed with chapstick. To the point where I wonder if it’s an addiction. My lips are constantly being moisturized, if not by Burt’s Bees, then by vaseline, or coconut oil, or (dare I say it) Bonne Bell (c’mon ladies, we all still have a few cotton candy flavours stashed away somewhere!). This is all well and good, but, when it comes to real lip care, you need to exfoliate that shiz. Some companies sell wonderful lip scrubs (Lush, I’m looking at you), but I don’t always have the money to spend on that stuff. I’m going to assume that most people feel the same way. Newsflash: you’ve got a kitchen that’s semi-stocked, right?

A spoonful of sugar...

A spoonful of sugar…

This lip scrub is kind of delicious, does a great job and is made just from ingredients you can find easily in your kitchen. Let’s get to it.

....because accuracy! (isn't super applicable in this recipe as long as you've got the ingredients)

What you need (this makes enough for about 2 people. Cut it in half if you just need it for one):

  • 1/2 tsp. each of olive oil, honey, and brown sugar (regular sugar works in a pinch)
  • 1/8 tsp. cinnamon

Stir it together with your finger and slather it on your lips. Scrub gently (unless you’re going for the red clown lips look – hot!), and rinse/wipe off when you’re finished. I usually like to apply a soothing cocoa butter vaseline for extra moisture power after I’m done. Try to do this scrub once a week to keep your lips looking amazing!

  2. I started exfoliating my face with Baking Soda about a month ago and was thinking just this past week that I need to start caring for my lips and eyes! Low and behold, ask and you shall receive, here is my answer! Thanks for tip, can’t wait to try it.

  3. Nice homemade recipe – and if it gets in your mouth at least its edible and doesn’t taste awful like some chapsticks!

Ha! It’s true – and at least I know that nothing in it is artificial or any weird chemical. It also happens to be stuff I usually have on hand, so that works out well, too! Thanks for checking it out!
