The Owl and the Pussycat

One of my dear friends recently starred in The Owl and the Pussycat (the play was also made into a movie in 1970, starring Barbara Streisand and George Segal). My other close friend (who recently got engaged and just asked me to be her bridesmaid!…and also happens to be now engaged to the star of the play!) was producing, and asked me to make some cupcakes for the opening night party. Ummmmm yep. Absolutely. Done.

The colour scheme was red, yellow, and gray. Not always condusive to making tasty-looking food. However, I came up with a compromise that proved to be (hopefully) both whimsical and on theme: actual owl and cat cupcakes. Ridiculous, or awesome? I made them out of red velvet, and used a stiff cream cheese decorator icing for the cats and regularly decorated cupcakes, and just a regular chocolate frosting for the owls. They were delicious (I may have sampled one before delivering them…I had to make sure they were good, obviously).

The grumpy one is the best one.

This was just a fun little side project that I thought you all might find entertaining. What are some of the coolest cake/cupcake decorating ideas you’ve done? Tell me about your creative food creations!
