Ah, the BFF edition! A very special August Friend Fashion treat! For those of you who don’t know my partner in crime, she is kind and wonderful and we fall into most of the categories on this list from Buzzfeed. I first got to know Danielle when I was working my way through student debt at a women’s clothing retailer at our local mall. She has since worked her way into my heart and there she shall remain. I believe the term ‘sister from another mister’ is appropriate in this instance.
I have always admired Danielle’s sense of style – she pulls off a polished, cool, put-together look that is reminiscent of the sleek artistic types of the 1960s and 70s. Although black was once a wardrobe staple (ALL the black!), her style has evolved into more playful territory.
How would you describe your style?
I think over the years, I’ve learned to make more practical choices, leaning toward more ‘classic’ styles, since I can pull those items out any time and layer on accessories and statement pieces! BUT, I can really be a compulsive shopper, so my closet can be quite the amalgamation of things I just HAD to have (if a rainbow sock monkey sang to me, I’d buy it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLJgL5dHZaA)! In the summer, my go-to item is ALWAYS a dress, I LIVE in them! Can never have too many!
Who influences you, fashion or otherwise?
Since I grew up in a very rural area, I think the first time I was exposed to the world of fashion was watching Jeanne Beker on FT [Fashion Television], and from that moment on, I was changed! I’ve always been a supporter (and time-to-time, contributor) of fine arts, and to me fashion design is an extension of sorts! I love to watch runway shows and keep on top of trends, but I mostly look to my friends for the greatest inspiration in every day life.
If you had to choose between wearing heels and diamonds or jeans and a t-shirt every day for the rest of your life, what would you pick? Why?
After years of playing dress-up for work and usually sporting a professional image, I’ve recently embraced the comfort and ease of jeans and a tee. If we’re talking the rest of life here, I’d maybe trade in my dresses for those! A great fitting pair of jeans can make your butt look Ah-mazing! [Editor’s note: AH-greed!]
Tell me about your very favourite pair of shoes. What made them so special?
Okay so sure, I would consider myself a shopoholic, but if there’s ONE thing that I avoid and really don’t like to spend time doing, it’s shoe shopping! The shoe in the display never looks as cute in a size ten! Haha! I don’t think I could nail down a fav, it’s always neutral or black, and the most low profile. [Editor’s note: we both abhor shoe shopping. I was just curious if she had any super amazing ones because she’s got a pretty loaded collection, regardless.]
