Frizzy Friday: Edgy Half Back Curls

After numerous searches on trying to find ‘fancy’ curly hair updos, and being continually disappointed with images such as this –

Sorry, straight-haired 1990s prom trying to diguise itself as curly. This just won't do.

– I have decided to post a few of my own updos that have taken me some time and experimentation to figure out. This one is simple and a little bit funky. As I’m a fan of low maintenance (especially when it comes to curls – it’s always a battle of the bulge when constant hair touching occurs), I promise to never post a hairstyle that takes gallons of product, patience, and manipulation to do. Easy peasy, my friends.

halfstyle11) The starting point (with lots of backlighting…sorry!).

halfstyle22) I take a chunk of hair and start braiding it – it can be a regular braid, or French, whatever is most comfortable for you. I try to start incorporating a bit more hair so that it’s thicker and more sturdily attached to my head.

halfstyle33) Once I’ve got it almost to the back of my head, I fashion the braid securely using two bobby pins criss-crossed to make sure it stays in place.

halfatyle44) Again, not the best photo, but it’s kind of a funky, fun half-up that gives the impression of that cute and edgy shaved side of the head appearance. I like to wear it on nights out with friends, or even if I’m wearing a more bold outfit. That’s it!
