Sometimes, especially in the dry winter months, my hair screams for moisture. No matter how much conditioner I slather on, it just doesn’t cut it. That’s when I like to break out the ‘big guns’ and do a homemade avocado mask. Avocados are so rich in natural fats and oils, and my hair just drinks it up! It’s also fairly inexpensive, and low on time wasting. I just put my mask on, sit with it for about 20 minutes, and rinse off. And say hello to gorgeous, lustrous curls, of course!
You will need:
- 1 avocado (super ripe – sometimes if you have one that is no longer edible, it’s good to use for this recipe)
- 1-2 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 tbsp. honey
Mash all of these together in a bowl with a fork until it creates a thick paste. Apply water to your hair until it’s damp (when it’s in a damp state, it’s more likely to absorb more moisture). Sometimes I just use my spray bottle, or I stick my head under the tap for a few minutes. Essentially, you’re going for the drowned rat look. Slather the mixture on, focusing on the ends, and put into a clip near the top of your head (I like to use these). Put a tight shower cap on to lock some of the heat in and maximize the moisturizing action. After about 20 minutes, rinse off completely and continue your hair care routine like normal.
