I’ve been reading more and more about how important it is to give your hair a break from daily wear and tear by putting it into a protective style. Now, for those of you who don’t know, a protective style is just a fancy way of saying a hairstyle that protects most of your ends from damage, while also acting as a wonderful conditioning system. For example, twists, braids, etc. Because I haven’t yet had the patience to do twists as small as I should, I decided to try some braids. Here’s how they came out:
A little messy, perhaps, but you get the idea. Reverse French braid from the other side x 3, then gathered and pinned into a bun at the back of my head. I was able to sleep on this for three days before I got kind of tired of it and took it out. It was fun for a change, my hair was always out of the way, and I knew that some serious conditioning action was happening. I’m planning on doing protective styles at least one hair wash day a month, and maintaining the practice in hopes of more growth.
Do you ever do a protective style? What works best for you?
